Dr. Dorit Kedar, Lecturer and curator

"In the orchard, the horizon between heights and depths disappears.  The sky skips into the sea and the earth runs like waves, climbing up and revealing yellow vegetation that springs from its stomach.

In the orchard, the laws of gravity no longer exist; the flowers' stems go upwards, and the roots are disguised as blossoms.

The Golden Age is confused with reality; clouds are trees, with their foliage becoming drops of clay spattering from the ground.

Every corner is covered with paint and more paint; dark pigment to make the entry into the orchard difficult --in all of its dimensions.

Light is like thunder claps on a day without rain. Flashes of light illuminate wonderful landscapes –for a mere instant.

There are minutes of ideal beauty here -- a small retreat to escape into, without the opportunity to remain there.

A short lull; imagination that has become reality for a little while."

Igal Ben-Nun, Curator and art critic

“Edith Cohen-Gewerc has succeeded in integrating, simultaneously and in a non-conventional way, warm paint spots (earth paints) with cold paints, that are transparent and clear.  Together, these inspire a spiritual atmosphere.

The ‘two circles’ composition is focused on a landscape theme and its vegetation, or on the idea of a far-away town, which is impossible to reach and yet to which everyone dreams of going in order to find peace and quiet.

Edith's painting is based in codes, with decoding keys.  Every form, motive or brush stroke has its symbolic meaning beyond the esthetic value of the moment.  All of the symbols come together into a kind of ‘syndrome of aspiration’; to escape from the concrete reality towards a spiritual ideal that is forever unattainable.”

Monique Tompezinsky, Art critic

"Powerful painting, faithful to the thousand-year-old spirituality that inspires this artist and gives strong images to her mystic symbolism... The message is always up-to-date in a deep, metaphysical way.

[She uses]… games in space, via vertical compositions or cursive marks; fragile brightness, night presence, singing and soothing colors...

Edith takes the spectator into the multiplicity of appearances that arise from her pictorial vision.

Fond of Byzantium, she knows how to use this contribution to create mysterious works that seem to come from long ago and from rites of incantation.

Edith is an artist who is both profound and lovable. Don’t miss this; for the heart and spirit revel in its excellence-- [and it leads to a form of] inner study…"

Thelia Conrad de Behar, Art critic

"There is a sensitive, sensuous, musical harmony in the artist’s use of gold, violets, grey, browns and beige. The sun, as with the ancient Egyptians, takes on the meaning of life-force, transforming reality into eternity."

Osvaldo Seiguerman, Art critic

"The artist has succeeded in creating a language both innocent and clever at the same time; a language which penetrates the visible, images that synthesize the whole chain of multiple appearances and experiences, in her sensation of the world."
